CAZALS Clos Cazals Grand Cru is an exceptional champagne, composed exclusively of Chardonnay from the Clos Cazals in Oger, classified as Grand Cru. The Chardonnay used for this cuvée comes from the "Vieilles Vignes" plot, planted in 1957 at Clos Cazals. According to Richard Juhin, this champagne is among the best champagnes from winegrowers, all categories combined. Clos Cazals perfectly embodies the great champagne of Mesnil-sur-Oger. It can be compared to the best wines of Guy Charlemagne and Pierre Peters from the same village, distinguished by its classic construction and depth rich in notes of nuts. The old vines of Clos Cazals, planted in the 1950s by Delphine's grandfather, produce grapes of exceptional quality. All cuvées benefit from a passage in oak barrels, adding subtle and delicate aromas. Aging on lees for at least 9 years in the vaulted cellars of Mesnil-sur-Oger is necessary to develop the full aromatic palette of this exceptional vintage, revealing the complexity of the 100% Oger terroir. Disgorging took place in January 2023, and the vintage is dosed at 2 g/l.
The year 2014 was marked by a contrasting wine-growing campaign, with a very rainy autumn and a mild winter, followed by a generally warm period, but punctuated by sudden climatic changes. These conditions put the winegrowers to the test until the end, but ultimately produced an abundant harvest of high-quality grapes.
