THE BRAND
The history of the Champagne Giraud estate dates back to 1625, to the contemporary era of Henry V and his heirs. The Hémart family, rooted in Aÿ since the beginning of the 17th century, marked the beginning of the champagne era in the 18th century. At the beginning of the 20th century, Léon Giraud united his destiny with that of Madeleine Hémart and undertook the restoration of the family vines, which had been severely affected by the phylloxera crisis. The vineyard extends over the communes of Aÿ, Dizy and Mutigny. Claude supplements the production by buying grapes from friends or family members, harvested by local harvesters. In 1980, Claude Giraud decided to increase the proportions of wines aged in oak barrels. At the moment, a significant portion of the champagne is aged in barrels, while the grape wines are kept in stainless steel vats. Today, Claude Giraud, representing the 12th generation of the Giraud-Hémart family, is at the head of this prestigious Champagne House, a member of the UMC. Among its emblematic vintages is the famous vintage cuvée called "Argonne". Highlighting the foundations of the House: Aÿ Grand Cru, Pinot Noir grape variety and Argonne barrels.
