This Blanc de Blancs Millésimé champagne is produced exclusively from the Grand Cru d'Avize terroirs. The year 2016, marked by a hot and dry summer, caused water stress, but fortunately, some rain in August restarted the ripening of the grapes. Heatwave years can offer Chardonnay a varied property, ranging from vegetal notes in the case of too early harvests to heavy wines in the case of too late harvests. However, the strong minerality of the Avize terroir has made it possible to produce a very good quality harvest. Slow and complete fermentations in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats preserve the full aromatic potential of the grapes. Then, prolonged aging on lees for five years in the cellar and, after disgorging, a dosage of 2.5 g/L give this champagne a magnificent freshness, a unique purity and a mineral texture. This vintage offers this champagne sweet aromas of white fruits, pineapple and citrus, as well as pastry notes of hazelnut. The freshness of the Avize terroir balances these aromas with lighter nuances of sour candy, licorice and lemon. On the palate, the champagne is smooth, complex and mineral, with aromas of pear, almond, honey, toast and chalk. The finish is saline and slightly minty. This Grand Cru Extra Brut from Franck Bonville is a tasty vintage champagne , perfect to accompany a fricassee of langoustines with saffron, linguini alle vongole, or even oysters, scallops and a beautiful lobster. Ideal for a summer aperitif, this champagne also pairs wonderfully with oysters, shellfish, pasta alle vongole or a fricassee of langoustines with saffron.

THE BRAND

The history of the Franck Bonville Champagne house begins with its founder, Alfred Bonville, in the year 1900. Living in Oger, he began looking for plots of land to plant vines, a bold challenge at a time still marked by the fresh memory of the phylloxera crisis. He chose the Avisé terroir, located a few hours' journey on horseback from his home. In the 1930s, Alfred joined forces with his son Franck. Together, they acquired a winegrower's house in 1937. It was located in the heart of the village, equipped with a press, a cellar and barrels. Despite the economic difficulties of the time, they persevered in their commitment to viticulture. At the end of the war, the Bonville Père et Fils Champagne house launched its own vintages and saw its vineyard expand. In the 1960s, the company acquired tractors, marking a new era in local viticulture. In 1970, Domaine Franck Bonville modernized its winery by replacing the tuns with steel vats, then with stainless steel vats at the end of the 20th century. Olivier Bonville joined the operation in 1996, after having acquired valuable experience in various Corsican and German vineyards.
