In 1974, one hundred years after the invention of Cristal, Jean-Claude Rouzaud launched the Louis Roederer Cristal Rosé cuvée. To do this, he carefully selected old Pinot Noir vines located on the best terroirs of the Grand Cru d'Aÿ. Composed of approximately 55% Pinot Noir and 45% Chardonnay, 20% of which are vinified in oak tuns, Cristal Rosé is produced using the saignée method after cold maceration. This cuvée benefits from an average of six years of maturation in cellars. From the attack on the palate, the aromatic intensity is immediately felt, revealing an imposing roundness and smooth, sweet flavors of white flowers, red fruits, caramel and tarte Tatin. The texture, round, ample and refined from the start of the palate, is typical of the Louis Roederer house. It is supported by a vinous structure, without being full-bodied, and by a beautiful freshness. This combination gives an impression of great finesse and reinforces the precision of this exceptional vintage.

“Cristal Rosé 2014 with its ripe, slender fruit and delicious texture is incredibly precise. A delight, almost electric, with a high intensity of taste.”— Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon, Cellar Master

THE BRAND

Established in 1776 by Mr. Dubois and his son, the house enjoyed a period of growth under the direction of Louis Roederer, who ran the business from 1832 to 1870, propelling it to the ranks of the greatest Champagne houses. This prestigious reputation as supplier to the Tsar was maintained with remarkable regularity. Rather than buying grapes, Louis Roederer preferred to invest in the acquisition of vineyards, meticulously selecting the best plots. In 1876, his son created the first "prestigious cuvée" of Champagne for Tsar Alexander II, which he named Cristal. This tradition was continued by Léon Olry Roederer, then by his wife Camille from 1933, and finally by his grandson Jean-Claude Rouzaud, who undertook a redesign of the vineyard. Since 2006, the Rouzaud family, represented by Frédéric, the seventh generation of the line, has been at the head of Roederer champagnes. Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon, who has held the positions of deputy general manager and cellar master since 1999, contributes to maintaining the excellence of the house. The vineyard has been cultivated according to the principles of biodynamics for more than twenty years, with half already certified organic and biodynamic, while the rest benefits from the HVE-3 label.
