Champagne Chapelle du Clos is a blanc de blancs champagne made exclusively from Chardonnay, from the "Chapelle" plot, planted in 1980 within the Clos Cazals in Oger – Grand Cru. Aged for 6 years in vaulted cellars, this vintage champagne benefited from a 10% passage in oak barrels after alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in stainless steel vats. Disgorging took place at the end of 2021, and it is dosed at 2 g/l. The year 2017 was marked by unpredictable climatic conditions. A large and long-lasting frost affected the vineyard at the beginning of the season. Although rain has been rare since the summer of 2016, the end of the campaign saw abundant precipitation, making this period one of the wettest since 2001, with almost six months of rain in just three months in some areas of the appellation. This year therefore presented a climatic pattern opposite to that of 2016.
To the eye, the Chapelle du Clos 2017 champagne is distinguished by a pale gold, bright and crystalline color, with golden highlights and fine bubbles forming a delicate cord. The nose is elegant and refined, mixing exotic and floral notes with a subtle minerality. From the first nose, aromas of citrus fruits and zest are revealed, followed by white flowers and hawthorn, before giving way to rounder and more exotic touches of mango and lychee. On the palate, exotic notes of lychee and pineapple dominate, accompanied by a pleasant freshness. After a few moments, aromas of white-fleshed fruits, such as slightly vanilla-flavored vine peach, appear. The cuvée is characterized by a delicate acidity and a good length in the mouth, offering a harmonious and complex taste experience.
