THE BRAND
Champagne Delamotte was founded in Reims in 1760, making it the fifth oldest Champagne house. Since the early 20th century, Maison Delamotte has produced primarily Blanc de Blancs Champagne in the Grand Cru village of Mesnil-sur-Oger. Their grapes come from vineyards in the Côte des Blancs region of Champagne, and most of Delamotte's vineyards are planted with Chardonnay, which enjoys the exalted grand cru status common to the best Champagnes. Delamotte produces non-vintage Brut, Blanc de Blancs, and Rosé. Delamotte's champagnes are a favorite among the Champagne people, who recognize their consistent quality and unwavering respect for the terroir and the Côte des Blancs. In his publication The Wine Advocate, world-renowned critic Robert M. Parker called Delamotte "one of the finest champagnes, exquisitely crafted." Delamotte’s sister winery is the prestigious Maison Salon, which produces exclusively vintage Champagne, and only in extraordinary years. Salon produces perhaps the finest and rarest Blanc de Blancs champagne in the world. Didier Depond, President of Champagne Salon and Champagne Delamotte, explains that “Chardonnay has a better ageing potential than Pinot Noir. Pinot grows and evolves, while Chardonnay retains its freshness, so blanc de blancs will always last longer than blends or blanc de noirs.”
